Fall 2002 Bulletin

Support of the Taos Community Makes
Paint-a-thon 2002 a Great Success

Raise your paintbrushes, checkbooks and chef’s caps in triumph! Once again Amigos Bravos’ annual Paint-a-thon fundraiser was a huge success. On June 15, 78 artists showed up with tools of the trade in hand and created river masterpieces along the banks of the Río Grande. Later in the day, at the Bareiss Gallery, over $13,000 was raised at an auction of the artwork (created that day). The money raised will help Amigos Bravos with the work of protecting wild rivers and their associated ecological and cultural richness.

This year, unlike the stormy chaos of last year, we were blessed with a beautiful early summer day. The turnout at the cocktail party and auction was impressive and the crowd was able to sip their drinks outside while soaking in the beautiful views from the patio of Bareiss Gallery, which was generously donated by Philip Bareiss for the event. The auction inside was lively as the paintings and other pieces of artwork were auctioned off to the highest bidder. We even auctioned off a hat with a river theme!

The board and staff of Amigos Bravos would like to thank all the artists who donated their time, materials, and artistic talents to this year’s Paint-a-thon. Their dedication and generosity is inspiring and much appreciated.

The 27 businesses that donated food, drink, paper supplies and gift certificates also deserve a hearty thank you from us here at Amigos Bravos. The continued support of Taos area businesses helps make this event both successful and fun year after year.

The planning and running of this event takes the support of numerous volunteers. This year’s volunteers helped with tasks as varied as squeezing limes for the hand-made margaritas to hanging the artwork at the gallery. As usual, Amigos Bravos members and volunteers Karen and David Douglas headed up the extensive planning and preparing of a feast not only for the eyes but for the taste buds as well.
Thank you Artists, Business Donors and Volunteers!
