When Executive Director Brian Shields went on a six-month sabbatical to Spain he painted and painted. When Brian came back he offered to organize a benefit show of his sabbatical paintings with all proceeds to be donated to the Amigos Bravos Cash Reserve Fund. The Bareiss Gallery has generously donated the space for the event.
Brian is an avid painter. He received a BA in Art History in 1968 and taught art in the early seventies. In 1990, he spent eighteen months studying under Philip Sherrod at the New York Art Students League. Most weekends he can be found painting along a river or in the mountains surrounding Taos.
The Amigos Bravos Cash Reserve Fund is a special fund set up to help ensure the longevity of Amigos Bravos, and to buffer the organization in times of cash flow shortages. The goal for the Fund is to raise fifty thousand dollars. At present the fund has over fifteen thousand dollars.
When informing the Board of Directors of his offer to put on a benefit show, Brian said, " I want to thank Amigos Bravos for having given me the time to paint, and I want to donate to the Cash Reserve Fund for having given me peace of mind while I was on sabbatical."
Over thirty of Brian's landscapes will be for sale ranging in price from $175 to $1,200. |
