The Policy Specialist position at Amigos Bravos is primarily externally focused, working to implement beneficial changes to water policy consistent with Amigos Bravos priorities on both a state and federal level.  Elements of this work would include:

• Working with Amigos Bravos leadership and statewide and federal water conservation partners help identify and prioritize beneficial water policy priorities to promote clean water, healthy flows, and resilient watersheds. 
• Networking and building coalition support for water policy priorities. 
• Engaging with regulators and legislators about water policy
• Expansion of Amigos Bravos projects and presence across New Mexico, including engaging with and developing partnerships with the following interests and communities:
  • Land based communities
  • Pueblos and Tribes
  • Allied conservation organizations
  • Governmental entities (municipalities, state agencies, federal land management agencies)
• Assisting other staff in cultivating and managing an active and engaged membership base and assisting with outreach activities and events.  

This position will ideally be based in the Santa Fe or Albuquerque metro areas, though other northern New Mexico locations will be considered.  Working remotely is fine, but proximity to New Mexico policymakers has a big influence on geographical location.

Full-time salaried positions at Amigos Bravos have a baseline expectation of 32-40 hours per week, but evening and weekend work may be required from time to time depending on projects, activities, and events.  Salary range is $60K – $70K depending on experience and qualifications.

• An interest in environmental stewardship.
• An education in environmental policy.
• Excellent oral, written, professional and technical communication skills.
• Experience in developing and influencing environmental policy, including developing and maintaining constructive relationships with policymakers including legislators, government administrators, and regulatory agency staff.
• A commitment to implementing strategies that further equity, inclusion, and justice, including through the just treatment and meaningful involvement of clients, partners, and frontline community groups and individuals.
• Highly organized, detail oriented, and intellectually curious with an ability to adhere to deadlines and manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
• An ability to travel to project sites and meetings anywhere in New Mexico.
